I thought of this resource system last night and I really like it. I think this is how it will work:
Workers are basically any civilian that hasn't been trained for combat.
Every city starts off with a dump. You can appoint workers to your dump that go around scavenging the wastelands for you bringing back "scraps" from the wasteland.
"Scraps" will be required to build the basics; houses, very crappy weapons etc...
One of the first things players will build is a "Sorting Facility". Once this is build, scraps will go to the sorting facility instead of the dump.
From here, the players can build "Lumber Warehouses", "Metal Warehouses" and "Electronics Warehouses".
"Scraps" will contain a certain percentage of "Lumber", "Metal", and "Electronics". As scraps get sorted in your "Sorting Facilities", the better resources will go to their appropriate warehouses and the leftover scraps will go to the dump.
Here is an example:
15% of scraps are Metal
15% of scraps are Wood
15% of scraps are Electronics
Your sorting facility is sorting 100 scraps per hour.
Every hour, you will get:
15 Metal
15 Wood
15 Electronics
55 Scraps
There will also be Uranium.
To gain uranium, players will need a uranium lab in their city, and they will need to capture a uranium mine resource field.
Players will be able to assign workers to mine at the uranium field that they have captured. They will also lose a certain number of workers per hour due to radiation.
If we decide to have mutants in the game, maybe players could gain mutant troops per hour based on this as well.
Players will be able to reduce their losses by researching their "Radiation Suit Technology".
There will also be food/water to feed your population, but I haven't fully thought that one through yet. When I do, I'll edit this post.
I know this may seem very complicated for some of you but don't worry, I'll make sure that the system is smooth and easy to use.
